Flight Ascend Consultancy: Competitive Network Block Fuel Study

I am very pleased to have completed a woek package with widely respected Flight Ascend Consultancy to provide competitive block fuel and time data for a number of route networks for various aircraft types in support of a broader analysis for one of their clients. This is important to me as it will be the first use of my RAWAvCon Route Network Assessment tool for an external customer.

The RAWAvCon Route Network Assessment tool contains aircraft performance databases generated by the RAWAvCon Aircraft Design tool. Existing coverage includes the current Airbus (including A220) and Boeing fleets as well as models under development (e.g. 777-8 & -9) or where production has recently finished or is winding down, the Embraer EJet and EJet2 families and Bombardier Regional Jets. Variants of models with significant performance changes are modelled, e.g. 737NG includes variants with no winglet, blended winglet or scimitar winglets.

Various research/study aircraft have also been modelled including those with some less conventional airframe (Hybrid Wing Body) and propulsion (Hybrid Electric) technologies.

All RAWAvCon models have been by created using a component mass build-up in addition to aerodynamic and turbofan engine models. Public domain data and published research results are combined with my 25+ years of experience in aircraft design, operation and performance have been used to create representative performance models.

Future modelling activity will extend the aircraft coverage to include:

i) Potential 2030 re-engine studies and future aircraft developments

ii) COMAC and United Aircraft ‘150 seat’ aircraft

iii) Regional jets (AVIC, Bombardier, Mitsubishi, Sukhoi, United Aircraft, Embraer)

iv) Business jets (Pilatus PC24 already modelled)

v) Turboprop aircraft using a newly developed turboprop/turboshaft model

vi) Older aircraft types to provide a broader perspective on technology trends (757 already modelled)

vii) Possibly, helicopters too (using the turboshaft modelling capability).
