RELEASE: WADSoW? V0.2.1 Textbook
Whole Aircraft Design ... So What? V0.2.1 has been released. It remains an 'open-beta'.
The primary reason for this release is improved readability. I have switched the entire text to a 2-column format and allowed text wrapping around figures extending across more than 1/2 a page - The two images below show the same content in the previous release and in V0.2.1
OLD FORMAT
NEW FORMAT
I hope you agree that the new layout is much improved - the two figures in the new version were on the next page in the previous release. I'd planned to do this as part of the V0.3 release but felt the improvement warranted an interim release.
The two-column layout and text wrapping complicate further editing - but that is my problem!
WADSoW V0.2.1 also includes a limited number of tweaks and fixes to some of the over 400 figures.
Finally, note the change in the page numbers with no fundamental change to the preceding content. The total page count reduced by about 100 pages. This removes previous concerns I had on this matter, especially for a physical print copy.
V0.3 Plans
I plan to use the additional space to further develop the 5 concepts included in the 'Initial Design Scoping' activity in V0.3. These are:
i) LR SAF/kerosene 300-seat turbofan
ii) A conventional ATR-72 turboprop replacement
iii) A single-aisle hydrogen combustion concept
iv) Battery-electric sub-regional aircraft (similar to an Eviation Alice)
v) Hydrogen-fuelled, fuel cell-powered ATR-42 replacement
I will also return after a significant separation from the text and work through every line, looking to tweak poorly worded or clumsy text and address any grammatical errors to flush out those remaining. I hope that V0.3 is the final iteration before a formal release of V1.0
Planned release date: late 2024
